One of the most powerful images I have ever created. This national award-winning image was inspired by a visit to an art museum in San Francisco. Always with my camera in hand, I turned the corner to walk into another room and there he was…this sweet little man sitting in a world of his own. I quickly snapped the shutter and then sat down by him to hear his story because I just knew there was more that I needed to know. The location was a very special place where he and his wife of over 60 years would visit and quietly enjoy a beautiful painting by Joshua Reynolds. It was their safe place. After she died about 10 years earlier, he continued the tradition of visiting their room. After creating a painting of the scene I sent him a letter telling him that I was going to send the painting to him as a gift. I immediately heard back from his daughter who told me that he died the day before receiving the letter. I sent the painting to her which was displayed at his funeral. Art is a gift we give to others.
